Club Donates Sound System

Quota International of Indiana recently donated a system to amplify sound in the classroom to the Homer-Center Elementary School.
The system consists of a wireless microphone for the teacher and speakers for the classroom. It's intended to help pupils, especially those with a hearing loss, hear the teacher more clearly and distinctly.

Teachers using the system report less strain on their voices and notice that children have better focus on lectures and classroom discussions and directions, according to the club's announcement.

The club said it consulted with speech and hearing professionals from the Armstrong-Indiana Intermediate to choose the school to receive the FM Sound Field Amplification System. The Homer-Center School District is home to ARIN's services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Money that Quota International of Indiana raised in its 2002 Spa Day, attended by more than 70 people, paid for the device. In the fund-raiser, professionals from throughout Indiana County donated such services as hair styling, manicures, makeup, massages and photography.

Quota International is an 80-year-old international service organization with members of all ages, occupations and nationalities. With a motto of "We Share," the club is known especially for its service to deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech-impaired people and to disadvantaged women and children.

The Indiana chapter, charted in 1955, meets monthly at the Holiday Inn. Membership is open to anyone interested in fellowship with other members of the community and in community service.

In addition to the Spa Day event, Quota International of Indiana presented the 2001 Success Series, a three-part professional and personal development program co-sponsored by the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, and published a hardcover book titled "Indiana County Women of Distinction: 21st Century Edition."

Club members are already planning their 2003 Spa Day, scheduled for March 22 at the Holiday Inn.
