OAP IN ROUNDABOUT CHAOS

From: Glasgow Daily Record, UK

A PENSIONER insisted he was a capable motorist yesterday - despite driving the wrong way round a roundabout.

John Orr, 83, narrowly missed a head-on crash with a lorry when he turned into the face of heavy oncoming traffic at a busy junction off the M90.

Traffic braked to a standstill as police chased Orr for half a mile before he finally pulled over. At Perth Sheriff Court yesterday, Orr, who is partially deaf, admitted careless driving in his Volkswagen Polo as he headed towards the Kincardine bridge.

But his solicitor said Orr, of Motherwell, Lanarkshire, believed he was still fit to drive.

Fiscal depute Bruce Macrossan said Orr was "going round in the wrong direction. He appeared confused and in a state of panic".

The case was put off until next month for medical reports.
