Dspfactory Ltd. of Waterloo won the small business award sponsored by The Record.

This company's digital technology can clean up audio signal noise in anything from hearing aids and headsets to other applications like digital audio players and wireless devices.

It emerged in 1998 as a spinoff of hearing-aid manufacturer Unitron and has been booming every since.

It's grown from five to 70 employees, 45 of them in Waterloo. Last year, it established a research and manufacturing facility in Switzerland.

By the end of 2001, the new company's sales exceeded $16 million, and rapid growth has resulted in a move in July to a 41,000-square-foot facility on Kumpf Drive in Waterloo.
