LOWELL A deaf former security guard at a Lowell apartment building has been sentenced to three to five years in state prison after admitting he lured a 5-year-old-boy into the basement and raped him four years ago.

Lowell Superior Court Judge Janet Sanders imposed the sentence after Sandy Bouatick, of Lowell, pleaded guilty this week to one count of child rape.

Prosecutors said that on March 30, 1999, Bouatick, then an 18-year-old security guard, lured the boy into the basement of a Coral Street apartment building by telling him he had to shut off the fire alarm.

The boy's 14-year-old sister saw them go into the basement and noted they were gone about 20 minutes.

Later, when she asked her brother what happened, the boy told her in Khmer that Bouatick had touched him on his private parts, prosecutors allege. After police were called, Bouatick allegedly admitted he touched the boy inappropriately.

As part of his conviction, Bouatick must now register as a sex offender.
