Flats plan for college building
From: Glasgow Evening Times, UK - 19 Dec 2002
THE £10million transformation of a historic Glasgow college into luxury flats has been given the go-ahead by city planners.
The B-listed Prospect House, on the south side, was bought earlier this year by Abbey Projects who has now secured planning permission for the ambitious restoration.
The former Langside College building, originally home to the Deaf and Dumb Institution in the late 1800s, will be converted into 42 flats, with another 23 to be built in its grounds.
Abbey, which paid £1.5m for the building, has pledged to retain the original gothic facade and has been backed by Historic Scotland.
The first flats are due to be completed this spring, with the whole project expected to take around a year.
Prices are expected to range from £83,000 to £226,000.
Abbey director David Mawhinney said: "Prospect House presents a unique and challenging housing solution.
"Our anticipation is that the variety of apartments and high specification finish will lend the development a wide and sophisticated appeal."
