MOTION PICTURE ACCESS (MoPix) NEWS
Week of Dec. 13 to Dec. 19

FIRST THE GOOD NEWS
MAID IN MANHATTAN, starring Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes, debuts with closed captions and descriptive narration in select theaters MoPix-equipped theaters this week.

NOW A BIT OF BAD NEWS
We are sorry to report that LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS will not be released with closed captions and descriptions. The film's distributor, New Line Cinema, while initially choosing to make this film accessible via MoPix, has not been able to confirm when materials would be available to us to begin work. Given the busy holiday film release schedule, film distributors have a window of time to commit to delivery and production schedules for the captions and descriptions, and New Line has not been able to do so. We apologize and
we share in the disappointment.

TEXANS TWO STEP, RIGHT TO THE THEATER
Texas has its first fully accessible first-run movie theater, AMC The Parks at Arlington (near Dallas/Ft. Worth). Congratulations to area patrons who wrote and called the theater chain's headquarters to encourage them to install the Rear Window Captioning and DVS Theatrical systems in Arlington. HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS is playing in the equipped theater at this location this week. Enjoy!

MORE GOOD NEWS ON THE THEATER FRONT
AMC has annonced another two MoPix installations... the Mesa Grand 24 in Mesa, Arizona (near Phoenix and the first fully accessible theater in Arizona) and the Empire 25 in Manhattan (the first in Manhattan)! These sites are targeted for early January installs.

Updates will be shared as we learn more regarding these and other upcoming installations:
* The new AMC River East in downtown Chicago
* The new AMC Theater at Bay Street in Oakland, CA
* A second system at Mann's Chinese 6 in Hollywood, CA

MOPIX FILES SHOWTIMES ON THE WEB
MoPix-equipped theater locations, films and showtimes are available on the Web at http://ncam.wgbh.org/mopix/nowshowing.html. You can now search by state and find just the information you're looking for. The site is accessible via screen readers, of course. There may be a slight delay in the site being freshened each week as we work furiously here behind the curtain to make both the e-mail posting and the Web posting happen. You should be able to check the site starting on Fridays of each week. Famous Players continues to have the information about films and showtimes at their locations on the Web as well at http://www.famousplayers.com/Static/AV_Enhancements.asp .

The Rear Window Captioning and DVS Theatrical systems were developed by WGBH to make feature films accessible the date films open in theaters nationwide – and during regular showtimes – to movie fans who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind or visually impaired.
