3 Somerville men indicted on rape charges

A Middlesex grand jury indicted three Somerville men yesterday on charges of raping two deaf teenage girls, one of whom uses a wheelchair, in Somerville's Foss Park Oct. 24. Carlos Escobar, 18, Jose Ortiz, 20, and Jesus Pleitez, 19, allegedly met the teenagers, ages 14 and 17, in a nearby Dunkin' Donuts, and attacked them in the park, the Middlesex district attorney's office said. The three defendants had pleaded not guilty at their arraignments in District Court on Oct. 28. At that time Pleitez was ordered held on $100,000 bail, and Ortiz and Escobar were ordered held on $50,000 bail. Escobar is scheduled to be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court this morning. Arraignment dates have not been set for Ortiz and Pleitez.
