Gallaudet University Receives Award from CASE
Washington, DC—Gallaudet University’s Capital Campaign Gala Videotape won a
gold medal in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)
District II Accolades 2002 Awards Program in the Alumni, Communications, and
Philanthropy category. The award will be presented on February 1, 2003 at
Tavern-on-the-Green in New York City.
In 1997, Gallaudet embarked on its first-ever comprehensive Capital Campaign
with a goal of raising $30 million in private support. The campaign sought
support for a new Student Academic Center, additional scholarships to
attract and retain the best students from around the world, and to create
innovative programs to provide our students with advantages as they compete
for jobs after graduation. When the Capital Campaign ended on December 31,
2001, an impressive total of $39.9 million was raised.
To celebrate the success of the Capital Campaign, the University hosted a
Campaign Victory Celebration on February 9, 2002 in the East Hall of Union
Station in Washington, DC. Over 700 people attended the event. Gallaudet’s
Development Office and the Gallaudet University TV and Media Production
Services produced the eight-minute award-winning videotape to thank those
people who supported the Campaign and to emphasize that although the
Campaign was over, Gallaudet continues to have many funding needs.
Gallaudet University is the only University in the world that provides deaf
and hard of hearing students with a total college experience. All
communication, academic programs and extracurricular activities are tailored
specifically to deaf and hard of hearing students. Founded in 1864 by an act
of Congress, Gallaudet’s original charter was signed by Abraham Lincoln.
Today, Gallaudet has a student population of 2,000 in its undergraduate and
graduate programs. Gallaudet also serves the national and international deaf
and hearing communities through its various outreach programs and by
providing them with information and conducting research on deafness. Visit
