MOVING THINGS ALONG
A few good ideas have been offered from movie fans out there.
1. Include a few sample letters on the MoPix Web site that folks can use when determining what to say/how to request that theater chains and/or film studios provide access to more films in more locations. Do the same to provide language for those who want to advocate for DVS tracks on DVDs.
2. Provide a resource for folks in various cities/states to connect with others in their area to work together for increased access. For example- when we're contacted individually by a people in the Boise, Idaho area, we can connect them with others to advocate as a group with local theaters.
This last activity has been happening informally, but would be much more useful if readily available when you need and want the info quickly. Perhaps a page of the MoPix site where a contact list of e-mail addresses (and optional first/last names) are listed by state/city? Look for followup from us on both ideas in the week or two ahead.

The list of upcoming films that will be accessible in 2003 is growing! Since the first of the year the Media Access Group at WGBH has secured commitments from the Hollywood studios for an additional twenty-one films, that makes 49 titles so far for 2003, and more will surely be announced. There are some big, big titles such as the two MATRIX sequels coming from Warner Bros. Pictures with both captions and descriptions.

What can I do to get closed captioned and described films closer to my home? We've assembled the phone numbers and addresses of the headquarters of major theater chains-- let them know you're eager to see accessible films, eat their popcorn and be a regular customer. What can I do to get (insert name of much anticipated film here) released with captions and descriptions? Find out which studio is distributing the film/s you want to attend (info is available online at sites such as movies.com or just e-mail us and we'll figure it out). Write to the studio and let them know you're out there, and you're anxious to see their film/s. And if a studio has already released a film that you're disappointed is not accessible to you, let them know that as well. And while you're writing, send a word of thanks to the studios that do release accessible films (list of films and studios is always included in the update each week -- for example, MAID IN MANHATTAN = Sony Pictures).
