Video processor reproduces cinema quality images
From: EE Times Online - 07 Jan 2003
The Digital Media Business Unit of Trident Microsystems Inc. has announced the release of the DPTV 3DPRO single-chip video processor, which promises to deliver cinema-realistic motion and still images for high-performance LCD, rear-projection, and plasma TV receivers.
The third generation digital TV video processor solution integrates an enhanced multi-standard 3D digital comb video decoder, edge smoothing circuitry, and an object-based digital noise reduction feature to reproduce cinema-realistic quality video onto large-sized display devices.
The video decoder supports the NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats, and requires no extra frame buffers for performing 3D comb filtering. The decoder reads consecutive horizontal scanning lines within each video frame making corrections as it goes, to ensure maximum picture detail and resolution. It also has a built-in VBI circuit for closed captioning and V-chip for parental control.
Available in a 208-pin PQFP, the IC has a film-mode recovery function to correctly detect the frame of incoming video sources, and then dynamically restore the video source to the original film mode sequence in playback. It also has a motion adaptive de-interlacing and edge-smoothing features to further improve video display quality.
The DPTV 3DPRO supports an RGB output of up to 1,240-by-1,024-by-60 resolution and enables an SDTV signal to display in picture-in-picture mode, picture-out-picture mode, and 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio modes. It also supports nonlinear scaling in the panorama mode and features a graphics-based on-screen display.
