Deaf mute woman is arrested after tussle with deputy

PALATKA -- A deaf mute woman was arrested Thursday evening after biting and kicking a deputy who tried to use written messages to ascertain her suspicious behavior, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.
Michelle Ricks, 18, of Jacksonville, was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence. She was booked into the Putnam County Jail on $3,508 bond.
When Deputy David Hamilton wrote messages to Ricks, she became enraged and hit Hamilton with a tote bag, according to Capt. Rick Ryan of the sheriff's office. Hamilton said that when he physically apprehended the suspect, Ricks responded by biting and kicking him.
