Internet lessons for disabled kids
From: News Shopper, UK - 25 Feb 2003
DISABLED youngsters in Bexley can receive specialist home computer tuition through a new charity project.
U Can Do IT is offering 20 blind, deaf or physically disabled teenagers the chance to learn internet skills from qualified, vetted tutors.
Full use will be made of adaptive technologies such as screen readers and voice input, where needed.
Chairman Anthony Wigram said: "We are very excited about this project.
"Even those with severe or multiple disabilities can learn how to keep in touch with friends by e-mail, download cool stuff and, of course, use the internet safely, easily and in a way which supports their education."
