FARIBAULT, Minn. - The Iowa School for the Deaf opened play in the Great Plains Schools for the Deaf Tournament with a pair of lop-sided victories Thursday in quarterfinal action at Minnesota Deaf.
The boys, defending champions, defeated Missouri Deaf 66-23. The Lady Bobcats, also facing Missouri Deaf, won 62-21.
The ISD boys will play Wisconsin Deaf in a 4:30 p.m. semifinal game Friday. The ISD girls meet a three-point shooting Oklahoma Deaf squad at 6 p.m in their semifinal game.
Junior Edlin Dorn's double-double (22 points, 17 rebounds) paced the Bobcats, who broke the game open with a 23-2 second quarter.
"We had a nice steady game," said Iowa Deaf boys coach Dan Gradoville. "Everyone got to play."
The Lady Bobcats also had a junior post a double-double as Jada Hart finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
"Missouri is rebuilding," said ISD coach Mike Shannon. "All of our girls got to play four quarters. We ran one offense and didn't use our fast break in the second half."
