AMC RIVER EAST THEATER IN DOWNTOWN CHICAGO
Both the Rear Window and the DVS Theatrical systems are now up and running. Thanks to Chicago city dwellers who have waited patiently for this theater to become a MoPix site! DAREDEVIL plays at the AMC River East with closed captions and descriptions through the week. See showtimes below.
A BIT OF GOOD DVD NEWS (ACTUALLY THREE BITS)
ROAD TO PERDITION, starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman and Jude Law (rated R, widescreen edition), from DreamWorks Pictures, was released just this week with both closed captions and descriptive narration provided by the Media Access Group. Description on DVDs is still rare, so this is great news indeed! Two other pieces of news on this front... AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, CHICAGO: CITY OF THE CENTURY (a 4-disk set) and AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, PARTNERS OF THE HEART are also now available with captioning, audio descriptions and WGBH-pioneered audio navigation or "talking menus" which enable users with vision loss to navigate the on-screen menus independently. ROAD TO PERDITION is available wherever DVDs are sold. The AMERICAN EXPERIENCE titles are available via www.shopPBS.org (or via phone at 1-800-645-4727 voice).

What can I do to get closed captioned and described films closer to my home? We've assembled the phone numbers and addresses of the headquarters of major theater chains-- let them know you're eager to see accessible films, eat their popcorn and be a regular customer. What can I do to get (insert name of much anticipated film or DVD here) released with captions and descriptions? Find out which studio is distributing the film/s you want to attend or the upcoming DVD release (info is available online at sites such as movies.com or just e-mail us and we'll figure it out). Write to the studio and let them know you're out there, and you're anxious to see their film/s. And if a studio has already released a film that you're disappointed is not accessible to you, let them know that as well. And while you're writing, send a word of thanks to the studios that do release accessible films (list of films and studios is always included in the update each week -- for example, CHICAGO = Miramax).
