MPSC to hold hearing on Relay Missouri surcharge
From: St. Louis Business Journal, MO - 20 Feb 2003
The Missouri Public Service Commission is planning an on-the-record presentation on March 3 to receive more information about the Relay Missouri surcharge on Missouri telephone bills.
The commission opened a case last November to review the surcharge, which is currently 9 cents a month per telephone access line. In February the staff recommended raising the price to 10 cents a month per telephone access line based on updated projections.
The Relay Missouri program provides deaf, hearing-impaired and speech-impaired residents access to the telephone network to make a call. A communications assistant then translates the call.
Missouri law requires the commission to review the surcharge every two years or so. It lowered the surcharge in March 2001 from 13 cents a month to 9 cents.
