From: Rochester Democrat Chronicle, NY - 02 Feb 2003
(February 2, 2003) — Winners of the 2003 Scholastic Art Awards were announced at Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday morning.
Nearly 1,400 art works created by youngsters in the 10-county Rochester region were considered by judges. The winners were selected on Jan. 4, but the results were not disclosed until Saturday.
Dozens of students were honored in several categories.
The speaker at Saturday’s ceremony was Thomas Warfield, director of dance and artist-in-residence at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
Students from 200 schools in the region competed. The winning works will be on display through Feb. 19 at RIT’s Bevier Gallery, 1 Lomb Memorial Drive.
They will now compete at the national level.
