Runaway mum appears secure but police still concerned

From: Stuff, New Zealand - 10 Feb 2003

SYDNEY: Missing New Zealand mother Caroline Grimes is believed to be heading for Victoria a week after she walked from a Darwin camping ground leaving her partner and five-month daughter behind.

Northern Territory police have confirmed the 26-year-old hearing impaired former Waikato woman hitched south and eventually caught a bus to Alice Springs.

"Truck drivers who gave her a lift believe she wants to go to Victoria, although she didn't say much. She seemed to be in reasonable spirits," Detective acting senior sergeant Jeanette Kerr said.

"We still have concerns for her welfare until we can speak to her."
