Textphone helps deaf people with police calls
From: News Shopper, UK - 18 Feb 2003
DEAF people can access police control rooms in Lewisham and Greenwich directly with a new Textphone system.
The facility will enable Textphone users to talk to control room operators confidentially, rather than via a BT operator. It was installed in response to the Disability Discrimination Act.
Met Commander Rob McPherson, director of group communications, said: "Providing this system means reporting a crime or getting help is now easier for the hard of hearing."
Lewisham police can be contacted by Textphone on 020 8695 2891. Greenwich can be contacted on 020 8284 7730.
