Pune, February 8: WITH both teams remaining unbeaten in their preceding matches, the final was touted to be a clash of titans. Being the host team, though, Maharashtra had a slight edge. Tamil Nadu, however, upset the applecart of hosts Maharashtra, defeating them 43-25 in the final of the first National Basketball Championship of the Deaf at the Deccan Gymkhana court, here on Saturday.

Alex Sebastian was once again in the thick of things for Tamil Nadu, netting 19 points for the visitors. The other significant contributors for the winners were Vishnu Abraham (14) and David Babu (6). For the State team, the prolific Milind Sathe (13) and Prakash Sawala (8) were the main scorers.

Earlier in the third place play-off, the Karnataka hoopsters quelled the challenge of Gujarat with a 38-23 margin. CM Babu was the top-scorer of the match, netting 18 points for the winners. Assisting Babu was Bonny Thomas who chipped in with 16 points. Amit Seth (10) and Sunil Patel (8) were the top-scorers for Gujarat.
