TWO NEW CAPTIONED FILMS THIS WEEK
BASIC, starring John Travola and Samuel L. Jackson and HEAD OF STATE, starring Chris Rock and Bernie Mac, debut with closed captions this week in select theaters equipped with Rear Window Captioning.
HARRY POTTER ON DVS HOME VIDEO
We've been innundated with requests to learn whether there will be a described version of HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS offered through DVS Home Video. The answer is... yes! We'll know the release date of the described version of the video shortly, so stay tuned. Unfortunately, the description track did not make it onto the DVD release of this film. Want to help convince the studios to include description tracks on DVDs? Let us know.
YOUR QUESTION/OUR ANSWER OF THE WEEK
Do all theaters that have MoPix systems get the access features (on disks) sent to them for each film that has been closed captioned and described? The answer to that one is yes, with a note that that is the goal anyway. If a MoPixed film (for instance, TEARS OF THE SUN) is scheduled to play in any auditorium of a multiplex that has one or more MoPix installations, that multiplex will receive the disks with the caption and description features. While the film may not debut in that equipped auditorium on the opening day, the disks with the access features are "in house" for use when/if the film does play in the MoPixed equipped auditorium. Sometimes, we learn that a theater has not receieved the disks and when we are alerted to that, we can arrange an overnight shipment. With so many films with descriptions and/or closed captions out now, and for the remainder of 2003, it should be easier than ever to find a film you want to see if you have an equipped theater near you. Continue to contact us if you have questions or kudos (we like both!) and we can help the theaters welcome you, and ensure you can enjoy as many movies as possible with captions or descriptions at your local theater.

Closed captioning and description of all films provided by the Media Access Group at WGBH, a nonprofit division of Boston public broadcaster WGBH. The Rear Window Captioning and DVS Theatrical systems were developed by WGBH to make feature films accessible the date films open in theaters nationwide— and during regular showtimes— to movie fans who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind or visually impaired.
