Pulitzer Prize Winner to Open Genetic, Disability, and Deafness Conference
Washington, DC—Gallaudet University Press Institute and the Office of the Dean, Gallaudet University Graduate School and Professional Programs, will sponsor an international conference, “Genetic, Disability, and Deafness,” on April 2-4, 2003 at the Gallaudet University Kellogg Conference Center.
Keynote speakers include Louis Menand, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “The Metaphysical Club;” Walter Nance, professor, Department of Genetics, Virginia Commonwealth University; Alan Guttmacher, senior clinical advisor, National Human Genome Research Institute: and Michael Berube, Paterno Liberal Arts Professor in Literature, Pennsylvania State University and author of “Life as We Know It: A Father, A Family, and an Exceptional Child.”
Distinguished researchers and scholars will discuss a wide range of scientific, historical, and ethical topics on genetics as related to disability and deafness, and the epidemiology of hereditary deafness. Registration and continental breakfast begins at 8 a.m.
