School for deaf hosts art festival

From: Santa Fe New Mexican, New Mexico - Mar 28, 2003

Next week the New Mexico School for the Deaf will host the ArtSign 03 Festival, a biannual event that rotates among five schools for the deaf. Santa Fe last hosted the event 10 years ago.

ArtSign 03 provides an opportunity for 75 students from the Oklahoma School for the Deaf, the Arizona School for the Deaf, the Louisiana School for the Deaf and the Texas School for the Deaf to come together for a four-day extravaganza where they will explore videography, storytelling, visual arts, literary arts and performing arts. Students who have been identified as emerging artists will work side-by-side with prominent deaf and hearing artists.

The following events are open to the public:

* "Suitcases," an art exhibit opening, runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 4 in the Hester Hall Gymnasium. Admission is free.
* Art Fair, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 5, Larson Gymnasium. Admission is free.
* We Need A Ticket To Tomorrow, a play, 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 5, James A. Little Theater. Adults: $5. Students and children 18 years and under: $3.
