Concerns aired over schools' hearing support services
From: ABC Regional Online, Australia - Apr 7, 2003
Parents of deaf students in south-west Victoria say they are being forced to teach their children at home, because of inadequate services at schools.
The South-West Hearing Support Group president Greg Lee says the State Government needs to implement the recommendations of a report it commissioned into hearing support services.
He says south-west students are missing out on specialist teachers and resources which are available to hearing impaired students in other parts of the state.
"We've been waiting here, in this region, for over two years, and the children are suffering in the current system, and that's just not good enough," he said.
"Some of the children in this region are actually being taught at home, we have parents teaching their children at home, such is the state of affairs."
