KID SURVIVES 1500 VOLTS

A DEAF teenager performed a tightrope act on 1,500-volt train cable in a bid to escape police.

The 18-year-old robbery suspect was chased by officers into a metro station in Sunderland on Friday.

He ran into a tunnel, climbed up to the overhead cable and walked along it for 100 yards before getting down and carrying on along the tracks.

Trains were halted for three hours and a Sunderland Fire Service spokesman said: "He's lucky he wasn't killed."

He was being questioned by police yesterday.
