THE NATIONAL THEATRE OF THE DEAF ANNOUNCES 2003 SUMMER ACTOR’S ACADEMY

Hartford, Conn.- The National Theatre of the Deaf, celebrating its 36th anniversary, is announcing the upcoming summer session of Actor’s Academy, August 11-24 at the Radisson Hotel in Berlin, CT.

The Actor’s Academy serves as the foundation of NTD’s mission to seek, train, and hire new artists. For the past 35 years, the NTD, as part of its mission, has stimulated imaginations, ignited careers, and provided Deaf actors with the skills they need to artistically contribute in the area of performance arts through the Summer Academy.

To continue this critical part of its mission, the Academy will concentrate its training on the Little Theatre of the Deaf company members. On an annual basis, the Little Theatre of the Deaf performs to over 65,000 children and adults each year.

During this summer session, eight actors and two company stage managers will receive intensive and specialized training in the unique art form that the NTD has pioneered over the past 35 years. These unique companies, both consisting of four actors, will provide educational outreach to schools and public venues. One company will travel regionally in the Eastern part of the United States and the other company will travel as far as California as a part of a National tour of Oh Figaro!
