Ammer set to end silent world but Loh, Yu will have to wait
From: The Star, Malaysia - Aug 3, 2003
PETALING JAYA: After several years of living in a silent world of his own, five-year-old hearing-impaired boy Ammer Nur Rahmat Kamarunnizam will have a chance to hear.
He obtained a contribution of RM21,000 from the Health Ministry's National Fund which will enable him to undergo a cochlear implant surgery.
The surgery will be conducted at the Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan on Sept 18.
Last month, the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head, Michael Chong, had appealed for public donations to help Ammer and two other children - eight-year-old Michelle Yu Kern Li and three-year-old Daniel Loh Kah Meng - who suffer a similar problem.
The department managed to raise a total of RM110,000 over the past one month for the three kids.
Chong said with the help from the Health Ministry, Ammer has sufficient fund to undergo the surgery so Yu and Loh would equally share the money raised from the public.
They needed another RM50,000. Chong said a fund-raising campaign would be held at the One Utama Shopping Complex from Aug 7 to Aug 13.
