DEAF Rotary Seeks Members

From: WOKR-TV, NY - Sept 27, 2003

Rochester, NY - (09/27/03) - John Beiter, a member of the Lima, Livingston County Rotary for six years, is now acting president for Rochester Deaf Rotary.

Beiter got the idea when he heard about a similar organization in Japan, and asked himself why there was no such thing in Rochester.

With many thousands of people with a hearing loss living in the region, Beiter said "It made no sense" that a Rotary Club with "sign" as the primary language had not yet formed here.

So far, eight members have joined. At least 20 members are needed for the club to be to be chartered. However, that has not stopped the club from holding breakfasts and Barbecues.

They meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Alpha Lutheran Church of the Deaf on South Clinton Avenue, and yes, the next fund raiser is a pancake breakfast Saturday October 4, at the church.
