PANAJI: Goa's state-run Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) was forced to apologise for the misbehaviour of its staff to a group of deaf-mute students.

Seven children of the state-run Sanjay School in Porvorim, two km from here, who were travelling in a KTC bus, were forced to pay for a ticket by the conductor despite their being entitled to free travel under state government orders, the Navhind Times newspaper reported. Since the children could not speak, let alone discuss the matter, they paid up but narrated the entire incident and the conductor's rudeness to their principal.

KTC managing director Arun Dessai, on being informed about the incident, visited the school and apologised to the children. KTC officials were reportedly moved to tears as the children explained in sign language in detail how the bus conductor had behaved on the way.
