MOTION PICTURE ACCESS (MoPix) NEWS
September 5-11

MOPIX SYSTEMS DEBUT IN KANSAS, OHIO AND CAMBRIDGE, MA
Three new MoPix system debuts to report this week. Kansas City has its first... the AMC Town Center in Leawood, Ohio has its first two... the AMC Easton 20 and the AMC Lennox 24 (both in Columbus), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology leads the pack of higher ed institutions by becoming the first university to install the system for showing theatrical films. A banner week for MoPix, and for film fans in these cities. See listings below and enjoy!

WANT TO ATTEND MORE FILMS THAT ARE CAPTIONED AND DESCRIBED?
Contact a theater chain's headquarters and lend your voice to the effort. Contact information is available at the MoPix site, www.mopix.org. Same goes for the movie studios, tell them you enjoy accessible movies, and to please release more films with both closed captions and descriptions. Contact info for them is also available at the site.

ROADMAP TO MOVIE ACCESS
Read an interview with Omaha's star advocate Bob Burns who raised half the money for a MoPix installation (AMC Theatres matched the funds), now available in text online at the MoPix site: http://ncam.wgbh.org/mopix/roadmap.html

CHIP OFF THE OLD BOB
Bob Burns, star MoPix advocate, has inspired movie fans in other cities to repeat his success to make more theaters accessible to people with hearing or vision loss. At last count, groups were hard at work in Austin (led by a 19 year old on a mission), in Grand Rapids and Detriot, Michigan, in the San Juan Islands in Washington, in Boise, Idaho, on Guam, in Australia and in too many more places near and far to count. If you'd like to get involved, e-mail us and we'll set you down the road (access@wgbh.org)...

BACK TO SCHOOL TIME/SLIPPING IN SOMETHING EDUCATIONAL
WGBH has developed, in collaboration with the Ohio State University, three FREE online literacy units to improve the reading, writing and comprehension skills of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, and based on the award-winning PBS series BETWEEN THE LIONS is called Cornerstones. The Cornerstones Web site includes a host of downloadable materials... videoclips of storytellers translating popular kids stories in American Sign Lanugage, Signing Exact English and Cued Speech, games, lesson guides and more. Teachers are raving, parents are asking where to get more information. Learn more at http://pbskids/lions/cornerstones
