RIT Fraternity Under Investigation
From: WROC, NY - Nov 4, 2003
The administration of the Rochester Institute of Technology is investigating a fraternity after one of its members died over the weekend.
Thirty-six year old Jerry Hopkins, a student at The National Technical Institute for the Deaf, was on a campout with the Kappa Phi Theta fraternity in Bradford, Pennsylvania, in the Allegany National Forest.
That student died Sunday. R.I.T. Communications Director Bob Finnerty says the school does not know how the student died.
The trip was not sponsored by the college.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
In a statement, the university said "our deepest sympathy goes out to Jerry's family and friends. Our main concern at this time is for the loss of an RIT family member."
