Bobcats storm by Wisconsin Deaf

From: Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil, IA - Dec 6, 2003

Edlin Dorn rolled up an impressive 25 points, 17 boards and six blocked shots as Iowa School for the Deaf topped Wisconsin School for the Deaf, 55-29, Friday night at the Lied Center.

"It was a typical first game," said Bobcat coach Dan Gradoville. "It started rough and got better as we went along."

The Bobcats held Wisconsin under 10 points in every quarter and to only 13 in the second half.

Mack Weyers added four points and eight rebounds and Moises Arteaga contributed three assists along with his nine points for ISD.

"We will take it," said Gradoville. "We were able to get every player in and get the season off to a good start."

Iowa Deaf was originally scheduled to play South Dakota Deaf Saturday night, but South Dakota pulled out of the trip early Friday.

"South Dakota was going to play both teams Saturday," said Gradoville. "So Wisconsin has agreed to play us again."

The Iowa School for the Deaf girls overcame a slow start and an injury to defeat Wisconsin School for the Deaf 25-24, on Friday.

"I think that we came out a little nervous and just couldn't knock down any shots," said ISD coach Mike Shannon.

The Bobcats also overcame an ankle injury to starting center Karie Romey.

"Katie went down at the beginning of the third quarter and the seniors really stepped up the rest of the way," said Shannon. "We played really well down the stretch, we started to attack the basket," said Shannon.
