STAUNTON, Va. -- A 12-year-old Roanoke boy alleges he was sexually molested by another boy this summer while attending a program at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind, police say.
According to a report filed with Staunton police last weekend, the molestation allegedly occurred June 12.
Staunton police turned the case over to Virginia State Police on Tuesday because the school is on state-owned property.
The report, filed by the boy's mother, said that the child was attending a "Deaf Camp" when the incident occurred. No suspects are named.
"It's very vague," said Officer Amy Pultz, spokeswoman for the Staunton police.
The report states school officials are aware of the allegation. But Superintendent Nancy Armstrong said Wednesday night she was not familiar with the alleged incident and could not comment directly.
Armstrong said the school did not host a "Deaf Camp" last summer, but did offer a week-long "Summer Enrichment Program." However, the program didn't start until June 15, Armstrong said.
State police confirmed that an investigator from its Appomattox division has been placed in charge of the case.
