Youngest Patient Ever To Get Device
CHICAGO -- An 8-month-old Indiana boy made medical history in Illinois, becoming the youngest patient ever to receive a cochlear implant.
Kevin Johnston had his surgery at Children's Memorial Hospital. He's the third child with hearing loss born to Cindy and Anthony Johnston, and his sister Colleen also has a cochlear implant.
Kevin's doctor said it was crucial for him to get the implant early.
The implant was activated Monday, so he has just begun to hear and respond to sounds.
