Regional Academic Bowl Competition to Begin Soon
Washington, DC—Regional competition for the Eighth National Academic Bowl for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students will begin next month and the top two teams from each region will compete in the finals April 24-27 on the Gallaudet University campus.
The National Academic Bowl began in 1997 as an annual competition sponsored by Gallaudet University, the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation and MCI-IP Relay. The purpose is to foster the pursuit of academic excellence; promote a spirit of academic competition and good sportsmanship; and encourage social opportunities for collegiality among students.
The five regions are: Southeast, West, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest.
• Atlanta Area School for the Deaf in Clarkston, GA will host the Southeast competition, February 19-22.
• California School for the Deaf-Riverside in Riverside, CA will host the West competition, February 25-29.
• American School for the Deaf in Hartford, CT will host the Northeast competition, March 11-14.
• Scranton State School for the Deaf in Scranton, PA will host the Mid-Atlantic competition, March 18-21.
• Hinsdale South High School in Darien, IL will host the Midwest competition April 1-3.
