A MOVIE FOR VALENTINE'S DAY
50 First Dates, starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore (from Sony Pictures), opens today with closed captions and descriptions in select theaters equipped with MoPix systems. What a fun date movie (and what a great addition flowers and chocolate would be, the latter purchased at your favorite MoPix-equipped theater, of course!).

A FEW WORDS ABOUT A UPCOMING FILM
We've been contacted by numerous movie fans and MoPix users who are blind and visually impaired regarding the soon-to-be-released film, The Passion of the Christ, directed by Mel Brooks. Folks want to know if this film will be described. We are working with the film's distributor now on this issue, and further information will be provided to folks via this list as soon as we have it. Note, the film will be subtitled, and so will not have Rear Window Captions.

ACCESS TO D.C.-AREA THEATERS TO INCREASE
A class action lawsuit was filed last year by members of the D.C.-area deaf and hard of hearing community, seeking access via captioning to movie theaters in that area. Attorneys for the defendants and plaintiffs have reached a proposed settlement which is posted on the following Web site: http://www.lawyers.com/simeoneandmiller/MovieTheaterSettlement.jsp

This is especially of interest if you are a member of the "class": deaf or hard of hearing and live in the D.C. area. This settlement does not address issues of access via description for people who are blind and visually impaired.
