School Protests Continue

From: KSFY, SD - Mar 18, 2004

A group of parents at the South Dakota School for the Deaf are asking the school's administrators to resign. Thursday, many of the parents were back demonstrating in front of the school.

Mike Brummer, a former teacher, explains the problem is administrators micro-managing what teachers do, "We loved the students there, we loved the kids there. We wanted to teach them to the best of our abilities. We loved our jobs, but we were under a microscope and scrutiny. It was very hard to do our jobs." Brummer also feels the administration does not make parents feel welcome when they come to visit the school.

South Dakota Board of Regents Executive Director Tad Perry says the board stands behind the school administration and that they have no plans to make changes.
