We are pleased to announce another YBCA/DMI Salon.  This one features the work of YBCA Wattis Artists-in-Residence, JOSEPH GRIGELY.  Mr. Grigely, who became deaf at the age of ten, creates works that explore multifaceted issues surrounding communication and language.

MEET:  Joseph Grigely who will speak about his current exhibition in the YBCA galleries.  (The YBCA description of the exhibition follows at bottom of this announcement.)*

VIEW: Grigely's conversation pieces, audio works and sculptural projects from the past ten years as well as a newly commissioned video.

JOIN: D.E.A.F. Media panelists in discussion with Mr. Grigely together with YBCA Visual Arts Curator, Rene DeGuzman

Joseph Grigely: Ten Years of Conversations
Conversation pieces, audio works and sculptural projects from the past ten years as well as a newly commissioned video by Wattis Artist-in-Residence Joseph Grigely. The artist, who became deaf at the age of ten, creates works that explore multifaceted issues surrounding communication and language. His work investigates the omnipresence of miscommunication while looking at the differences between speech and writing, and how our use of language is inflected with our individuality. His new video piece further explores the nuances of everyday communication. In addition to this new work, the exhibition features Grigely's early Conversations and installations from 19942000 and more recent projects such as Blueberry Surprise, which presents 45,000 words of edited conversations on a single page. The exhibition will also feature work Grigely made in collaboration with Amy Vogel, including the film Something Say (commissioned by the French Academy in Rome) and the audio installation You, which was first shown at the 2001 Yokohama Triennial.
