A student found dead at the Alabama School for the Deaf died in his sleep from cardiac arrest, school officials said Thursday.
Earnest Darrel Nash, 17, an athlete who had been a student at the school since he was 3, died in an ASD dormitory sometime before 6 a.m. Monday.
A funeral service for Nash, son of ASD alumni Gwendolyn Nash and Ernest Trammer of Montgomery, is scheduled Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Morningview Baptist Church in Montgomery.
He was a member of the ASD football and basketball teams and a distance runner on the track team.
"Darrel's family in Montgomery and his extended family here at ASD are hurting from this tragic loss," ASD principal Pam Shaw said. "He was a wonderful young man, a good athlete and friend; and he will be missed very much by all those he has shared his life with on campus."
