The Talladega County coroner said it appears that a student found dead at the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind died in his sleep of natural causes.

Earnest Darrel Nash, 17, an athlete who had been a student at the school for the deaf since he was 3, died sometime before 6 a.m. Monday. Coroner Jerry Castleberry said he will not be completely sure of what caused the death until he receives autopsy results.

Investigators and school officials said they do not suspect foul play. They were uncertain if Nash had any medical problems.

The school's athletic director, Kay Hill, said Nash was a top athlete and was in good physical condition. He participated in track and field, football and basketball.
