Awards salute state workforce

RICHMOND -- A guidance counselor at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind received an award from the governor. The ceremony was held in conjunction with Virginia Public Service Week.

Pat Davenport's award was for community service and volunteerism.

Davenport is an elementary and middle school guidance counselor at VSDB. In 1995, she became involved with Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). She completed training in 1998 to become a foster parent, which she continues. She also went into respite foster care and some children became full-time care. She will purchase clothing for students in need and volunteers to provide rides home for students when needed.
