Constellation Energy Group Inc. announced Tuesday its sponsorship of the closed captioning of all newscasts on NBC affiliate WBAL-TV in Baltimore.
Under the terms of its sponsorship, Constellation will be the exclusive sponsor of closed captioning on WBAL for a year. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Closed captions are on-screen, real-time transcripts of what is being said on a television program. The captions are hidden in a video signal; the hearing impaired use a special decoder that makes them visible.
"For many, closed captioning provides the only means for keeping up with the major news and information of the day, and therefore, is a natural for Constellation Energy to support," said Mayo A. Shattuck III, chairman, president and CEO of Constellation, in a statement.
Constellation has recently announced several other sponsorships, including $1 million for the renovation of the Hippodrome Theater and $150,000 for the restoration of the B&O Railroad Museum, damaged during a record snowfall last year.
Constellation will also continue to serve as title sponsor of the Constellation Energy Golf Tournament, the Baltimore stop of the PGA Tour's Champions Tour.
