Dodge receives award

STAUNTON -- The Skyline Chapter of Virginia Association of the Deaf honored Gregory Dodge March 6 with its annual Shinpaugh Award. The awards luncheon was held at the Catering Place.
The Skyline Chapter annually recognizes a person who is a true friend and for his/her extraordinary services to the deaf people. Dodge is employed by the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services as a counselor serving people in the Valley area. He first became interested in helping deaf people when he was a Roman Catholic priest in Richmond about 30 years ago. Then he was transferred to St. Francis Catholic Church in Staunton where he continued serving both deaf and hearing parishioners. Subsequently, Dodge left the priesthood and became involved in counseling people with alcoholic/substance abuses. He and his wife have two children and reside in Staunton.
