From: KWWL, IA - Jun 19, 2004

Iowa's hosting a camp of a different sound. The national Camp-Vention for the Deaf organization meets every two years. This year the camp came to the Amana Colonies. More than 700 people came to Amana from 33 states. The main goal of this week long event is to let deaf people from across the nation come together. The organization's Secretary, Norm Werverka, says this is one of the best groups they've had. "The people are nice, the community is nice here in the Amanas and its been a nice place. A nice place to meet other people and now we have new friends." The next camp will be held in nebraska, in June of 2006.
