ISU Dairy Farm Called Unsafe, May Be Demolished

From: Iowa Channel.com, IA - Jun 12, 2004

AMES, Iowa -- Say goodbye to Iowa State University's historic dairy teaching farm.

ISU officials have said they will ask the Iowa Board of Regents for permission to demolish 15 structures on the farm next week.

Officials said several sheds, silos and barns will be torn down because they are unsafe. Buildings with historical significance, including the original dairy barn built in 1917, will remain for the time being.

The dairy teaching farm served as an educational operation for College of Agriculture majors for nearly 100 years.

The university is planning to build a new dairy teaching operation, but has yet to secure land for the site.
