TV launches programme for the deaf
From: Daily Times, Pakistan - Aug 12, 2004
Sign language translations will appear on a weekly state-run television news program soon, following a deal agreed between the Cambodian government and an advocacy group for the deaf.
Two interpreters will translate the audio for deaf viewers, according to the two-year agreement signed by the Information Ministry and Krousar Thmey, an organisation that provides education for deaf and blind children.
"It is very important for the deaf to be part of the community and for them to be able to have access to information," said Benoit Duchateau-Arminjon, Krousar Thmey's president.
"It's important also for the population of Cambodia to recognize that the handicapped are part of this society and that they are able to do a lot of things." ap
