GRAND BLANC - A local company will make a big splash on a popular national television show soon.A pool installed by Midwest Fiberglass Pool Distributors at an Oak Park home will be featured on an upcoming episode of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The in-ground, fiberglass pool was the piece de resistance of the Vardon family's completely rehabilitated home.
"The family was ecstatic," said Greg Hoover Jr. of Midwest Fiberglass. "It was pretty neat for us to take part in."
Larry and Judy Vardon are both deaf. Lance, their 12-year-old son, is blind and autistic. Fourteen-year-old son Stefan interprets for the family.
The entire home received a makeover on the show. The pool was donated by Viking Fiberglass Pool Manufacturers, which contacted Hoover about installing it for free.
"Viking had donated a couple of pools before, and we install quite a few of their pools," Hoover said.
The 8-by-14-foot pool features an electronic water purifier. A control center in the house monitors the pool around-the-clock.
Hoover said quite a bit of the installation was filmed for the show, which will air this fall.
"They take 400 to 600 hours of film and cut it down," he said. "I personally have never seen the show. I can't wait to see it."
