Austine looks to keep winning ways intact
From: Brattleboro Reformer - Brattleboro,VT,USA - Dec 7, 2004
BRATTLEBORO -- Although the Austine girls basketball team may be a little thin on sheer numbers in 2004-05, sixth-year coach Pete Rausch still feels as though the Lady Arrows will be able to deposit their fair share of games in the win column.
Austine is coming off a solid 12-3 campaign last year, including a season-ending second place finish in the Eastern Schools for the Deaf Girls Division II tournament.
The Lady Arrows currently have a 2-1 record after suffering their first loss of the season on Saturday to Learning Center (49-41) in the finals of the New England Schools for the Deaf Tip-off Tournament.
Austine will be powered this season by senior Jennifer Harbart, who became just the fourth Lady Arrow in history to surpass the coveted 1,000-point benchmark in Austine's 57-17 win over Governor Baxter on Friday.
Along with the high-scoring efforts of Harbart, Austine will also have fellow senior point guard Jennilyn Rosa and sophomore center Audree Connelly to throw into the mix. Newcomer Sophia Brunton will also be a Arrow to watch, as the sophomore brings a new three-point shooting threat to Austine's repetoire.
The Arrows' team defense and solid court sense should be their strengths this season -- a recipe that has helped Austine experience a good level of success the past few seasons.
Austine will attempt to get back on the winning track today when it hosts Pine Ridge at 4 p.m.
