Press Release – December 23, 2004
MORE TEAM WITHDRAWALS FROM 2005 DEAFLYMPICS
Three more teams from 2 countries have decided to withdraw from the competitions
in beach volleyball at the coming 20th Deaflympic Summer Games which are due to open on January 5, 2005, at Melbourne, Australia.
Uzbekistan decided to pull out its two teams – men's and women's beach volleyball, while Fiji, a small nation in the Pacific region, its men's beach volleyball.
As of now, nearly 24 teams representing 16 nations withdrew their delegations in different team sports from the 2005 Deaflympics!
However, yesterday the two different websites – www.deaflympics.com and www.2005deaflympics.com - produced a very encouraging and enlightening news messages to the world.
These two websites yesterday announced the conflicting information: www.deaflympics.com reported that "3.650 athletes and officials from 75 countries are registered for the 2005 Games," while www.2005deaflympics.com announced the numbers such as, "3,666 athletes and officials from 78 countries."
"I will be very overjoyed if these above statistics produced by both the CISS and 2005 Deaflympics Organizing Committee will be real ones because I am for greater participation and massive presence of deaf athletes at the Games", said Mr. Rafael Pinkhasov Pinchas, a long time student of the CISS/Deaflympics affairs.
There are the very important and key issues right now to face with:
1) how many athletes and nations will actually show up at the 2005 Games?,
2) how and in what manner will the anarchically-managed CISS administration handle the penalty fee payments from these withdrawing 24 teams from 16 nations before the start of both 39th CISS Congress and 20th Deaflympic Summer Games?, and
3) will the CISS allow its legal system's Number One abuser – the USADSF – to take part at the 2005 CISS Congress and Deaflympic Summer Games?"
Mr. Pinkhasov Pinchas questions.
Meanwhile, a Hebrew-language Israel Deaf Sports Organization website reported today that Israel will send just five ( 5 ) athletes - 2 swimmers, 2 bowlers and 1 orienteer - to the 2005 Games.
The interesting thing is that the www.2005deaflympics.com yesterday reported that Israel's delegation is numbered at 26!
Again, let's wait and see till January 5, 2005, when the 2005 Deaflympic Summer Games Opening Ceremony's Parade of Nations will commence.
