Britain's Peffers sprints to gold
From: BBC Sport, UK - Jan 11, 2005
Lauren Peffers produced a sprint finish to claim gold in the women's 800m at the Deaflympics while Great Britain team-mate Candy Hawkins took bronze.
Peffers kicked for home with 200m left to go and held on to collect Team GB's third medal of the Games.
"I can't believe I've won, it is such a brilliant and fantastic feeling," said the 16-year-old.
Russian Nelli Erofeeva took silver behind Peffers, who added the title to her silver 1500m medal.
The Scottish athlete won in a personal best time of two minutes, 14.90 seconds.
Hawkins had set the pace in the early stages, taking an early lead.
But the 31-year-old was passed by Erofeeva and had to settle for her second bronze of the Games - her first coming in the 1500m.
