Volleyball: USA Beach, Indoor Teams Keep Winning at 2005 Deaflympics

MELBOURNE, Australia – The United States continued its winning ways in both the beach and indoor volleyball competitions at the 2005 Deaflympics Friday.
On the sand, the USA men's beach volleyball team, Michael Bruning (Tucson, Ariz.) and Scott Majorino (Mission Viejo, Calif.) improved to 4-0 with a pair of 2-0 victories over teams from Ukraine and Australia. Next on the schedule for Bruning and Majorino are Saturday matches against teams from Russia and Brazil.
The women's beach team, Tamijo Foronda (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) and Sarah Parker (Saratoga Springs, Utah), won their second and third-straight matches with wins over teams from Belarus (2-1) and Uzbekistan (2-0), respectively. Foronda and Parker will play a trio of matches on Saturday against Switzerland, Urkraine and Australia.
Indoors, the USA women swept Uzbekistan to improve to 2-0 overall. They share the top spot in the standings with Ukraine, which is also 2-0. Up next for the USA women indoors is a Saturday match against Ukraine.
The USA men swept Fiji on Friday to even their record at 1-1. On Saturday they continue play in Pool B with a match against Russia.
Overall, more than 3,000 athletes from 94 countries are competing at the 2005 Deaflympics in 16 different sports.
